John MULLAHY (Glen Waverley) (14:39): (1845) My question is to the Minister for Police. How is the Labor government continuing to build on the work already underway to ensure local residents feel safe across my electorate? Community safety is not negotiable. We are backing Victoria Police with the resources and powers they need to tackle crime. As a result of our reforms, more offenders are now being jailed rather than bailed. Adults who recruit children to commit serious offences are also facing tougher penalties. We are also increasing the police presence on the ground, with more police officers and PSOs at our stations and in our community. Local residents have told me that seeing more police makes a real difference to how they can feel safe every single day. That is what this is about, and that is the work that Labor will continue to deliver for my community.
