Energy policy
Bridget VALLENCE (Evelyn) (09:49): Despite the recent parliamentary inquiry into the state budget noting the importance of gas as an energy source needed for energy security, this Labor government has a war on gas. The Carroll Labor government wants to limit gas-fired power generation and has started banning gas connections in homes. Labor’s failed energy policies are driving energy prices higher. In Premier Ben Carroll’s desperation to cling to power, Labor’s transition to renewables is now in limbo and Labor is banning gas. Labor’s ban on gas hurts Victorian families. It hurts Victorian businesses. Our Liberal plan will reverse the Labor government’s ban on gas. That is right: our Liberal plan will reverse the Labor government’s ban on gas. We will throw open the door for gas exploration, ensuring reliable gas supply for Victoria. We will ease the cost-of-living pressures and restore energy choice by scrapping Labor’s ban on gas appliances. If Victorians want to cook with gas or have gas hot water, under a Liberal government, they can. Our plan supports hundreds of plumbers, important tradies in my community, who are facing uncertainty right now. We value our plumbers, and they are facing uncertainty with Labor’s gas bans. It supports manufacturing, agriculture and many other industries that rely on gas, providing energy security and energy certainty. Only the Victorian Liberals back gas for Victoria and for Victorians.
