Constituency questions

Mornington electorate

Chris CREWTHER (Mornington) (14:32): (1838) My constituency question is for the Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts. What is the minister doing to address the many vacant public housing properties in the Mornington electorate and Victoria to make them available to people in need? Constituents have repeatedly raised concerns about public housing properties sitting vacant and in disrepair when we are in a situation of having over 65,000 Victorians on the public housing waiting list. The Mornington Peninsula has the highest rate of rough sleeping in Victoria, making the availability of public housing crucial. My constituent Ric Howard specifically raised with me concerns about the transparency of public housing figures and the management of vacant government properties. At a time when so many Victorians are waiting for housing during a cost-of-living crisis, the government must provide clear and transparent information about the number of vacant properties, the reasons for those vacancies and what is being done to return them to use.
