Colin BROOKS (Bundoora – Treasurer, Minister for Industrial Relations) (10:10): I rise today to acknowledge all of the group leaders at Watsonia Scout Group, in particular Michael Ritchie, and congratulate Michael on being named a finalist in the 2026 Plenty Valley Westfield Local Heroes program. When Watsonia Scouts needed someone to step up, Michael did exactly that. Motivated by the positive impact scouting had on his own family, he took on a leadership role and has worked tirelessly to strengthen the group and its future. Michael is one of those people who simply gets stuck in whenever he is needed. Whether it is supporting leaders and volunteers, helping improve the Scout hall, working on grants and projects or finding new opportunities for young people, Michael is always looking for ways to make the group stronger. Under his leadership the Watsonia Scout Group is building an inclusive community where young people of all abilities can feel a genuine sense of belonging, build confidence and develop skills that will stay with them throughout their lives. But what stands out most about Michael is that at the heart of everything he does is a belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, challenge themselves and feel part of their community. Michael’s commitment to the Watsonia Scouts is a wonderful example of the difference that local volunteers can make. I congratulate Michael on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for everything he does for the Watsonia community and for the next generation of Scouts.
