Adjournment
Laverton electorate
Sarah CONNOLLY (Laverton) (13:08): Last week I am very pleased to say we hosted the eighth listening tour that we have held across the Laverton electorate. Over the last year I have done lots of these listening tours right across my electorate, suburb by suburb – community forums where folks can come down, meet me as their local MP and talk to me about the issues that matter to them. Indeed we have ramped them up across the last couple of months, with listening tours in Laverton, Sunshine West, Ardeer, Albion and Braybrook, and just last week Truganina was number eight on that list. It was great to sit down and talk with those who attended and have real conversations. For so many people who attend these, it is a great opportunity to talk with their neighbours and member of Parliament. There are conversations about the cost of living, transport, buses, roads, our schools, community safety, young people and opportunities – everything from projects that are getting our community moving to even the most niche local issues you can imagine. It is all up for discussion during these listening tours. And of course every time I hold these listening tours I learn something new as well about our local community: about the people who live there, about their hopes and their aspirations for our suburbs. These are fantastic discussions and are what being a local member of Parliament is all about. I do want to give a big shout-out to the team at Truganina Thunder Football Club, particularly Nick, for hosting me again. I am pleased to say that we are not slowing down any time soon. I cannot wait to get to Sunshine.
