Adjournment

Mordialloc electorate health services

Tim RICHARDSON

Mordialloc electorate health services

Tim RICHARDSON (Mordialloc) (19:13): (1734) My adjournment this evening is to the Minister for Health, and the action I seek is for the minister to update my community on the progress of building works at Monash Medical Centre and Dandenong Hospital. These are two significant health services that support my constituency, and they are part of the south-east area that is absolutely thriving: the Keysborough South area. Bubbies are born at Dandenong Hospital, and that is where you go to have your little one, or at Monash Medical Centre, which is an incredible health service in our area. Those health workers know one thing: they know that Labor governments back them in – more than 17,000 ‍health workers, midwives and nurses under this government’s leadership. That is the additional support, because we back in the health workers at the most critical time when Victorians need that care and support. Whether it is in an emergency department, when you are going through the birth of your child or you have got an ageing parent who is needing that support on general ward and care, those health workers are always there. My community is really excited about the more than $300 million upgrade that is coming to Dandenong Hospital that will see a substantial transformation.

Monash Medical Centre is literally coming out of the ground. We see the progress there. It was the children’s hospital under former Premier Andrews which was a big part of our work – upgrades there and the support as that south-east community has grown – and of course just nearby we will have the Suburban Rail Loop supporting this community into the future with access to health care and to the incredible Monash University precinct and supporting people to get around our south-east communities. With the development there, the progress there, I am really keen to understand from the health minister how these two critical health infrastructure assets and the work that has been done to support our nurses and midwives – more than 17,000 that have been added – will support health workers into the future.
