Jan Juc early childhood education and care
Richard RIORDAN (Polwarth) (13:24): I wish to bring to the house’s attention the meeting that I hosted with some Jan Juc parents at the local Jan Juc kinder. It has been brought to my attention that the priority access arrangements that are in place for three- and four-year-old kinder are really quite discriminatory against many families in my Jan Juc community. Quite simply, families that enrol in three-year-old kinder quite rightly expect that they can enrol their children in four-year-old kinder. But not under this current government are you guaranteed that, and in fact even living locally does not guarantee you access to your local kinder. This has caused great consternation, with over 20 families receiving letters that their three-year-old children will not be able to go to their local kinder when they are four years old. It is important that those families know that I will be raising it not only here with the government but also at the local council level.
