Adjournment
Melbourne electorate
Ellen SANDELL (Melbourne) (14:37): (1714) My question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. For months now families in North Melbourne have been putting their lives at risk attempting to cross Arden Street without a pedestrian crossing. The street is used every day by young children, parents with prams and school students, but without urgent crossing infrastructure we fear that a major incident occurring is only a matter of time. One constituent has a young daughter who attends a nearby kindergarten. She has reported four near misses in a single week at Arden Street and Dryburgh Street, including a driver who nearly hit her and her pram. Another constituent was recently nearly struck by a turning truck at the intersection of Leveson Street and Arden Street. The council has now apparently announced works at this intersection commencing in August, but there was no community consultation and these are just minor changes, not an actual pedestrian crossing, falling well short of what is needed to prevent someone being seriously hurt or worse. Minister, when will proper crossing infrastructure be installed on Arden Street?
