Adjournment
Mornington electorate
Chris CREWTHER (Mornington) (14:38): (1716) My constituency question is for the new Deputy Premier and current Minister for Public and Active Transport, who is not here in the chamber. When will the minister address the repeated vandalism of glass bus shelters in the Mornington electorate? Shelters in Mornington, Mount Martha and surrounds have repeatedly been smashed, leaving dangerous glass near commuters, families and older residents. I have raised this in Parliament and with the minister multiple times, but the response is simply to have it continually cleaned up, which sometimes takes a while, and to replace the broken glass with just more glass. That is not prevention; it is an expensive, dangerous repair cycle and a local eyesore. This government should consider metal mesh and/or high temperature resistant polycarbonate where vandalism persists. This may seem like a small issue, but if the Deputy Premier cannot even manage repeatedly vandalised bus shelters, she cannot help manage this state. The minister must identify the hotspots, install tougher alternatives and give the community a clear timetable for action.
