Questions without notice and ministers statements

Suburban Rail Loop

Jess WILSON, Ben CARROLL

Suburban Rail Loop

Jess WILSON (Kew – Leader of the Opposition) (14:26): My question is to the Premier. Will the government cancel the Suburban Rail Loop?

Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier, Minister for Education, Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, Minister for Medical Research) (14:26): I thank the Leader of the Opposition for her question. The simple answer is that I have been sworn in on day one and I will be addressing all these matters through a cabinet process, unlike that –

Members interjecting.

Jess WILSON (Kew – Leader of the Opposition) (14:26): Given the Premier claims that every dollar his government spends will be treated with respect, what is the full cost of the Suburban Rail Loop?

James Newbury: On a point of order, Speaker, the Premier is required to be factual. The budget lists SRL as TBC in cost.

Anthony Carbines: On the point of order, Speaker, the Premier has been on his feet for barely enough time for us to hear what he has to say.

The SPEAKER: The Premier has not had a chance to respond to the question in full.

Ben CARROLL: Like all of our projects, we are accountable through the budget process, and I am very clear that I will do everything I can to ensure every dollar spent by our government is treated with the respect and the dignity that it deserves.
