Community safety
Anthony CIANFLONE (Pascoe Vale) (13:30): As Parliamentary Secretary for Community Safety I have continued to be out and about supporting justice ministers and the work of the violence reduction unit and listening to local communities. On Thursday 23 July I was pleased to be at the VRU forum in Geelong. The regional forum brought together 100 service providers and community members to talk about the place-based solutions taking place there. I commend the members for Lara, Geelong and Bellarine for their efforts in bringing together that forum.
On Friday 24 July I was pleased to be part of the community safety round table in Ballarat, in Sebastopol, with the member for Wendouree and 20-plus local residents discussing opportunities around crime prevention and community safety in Ballarat. On Wednesday 24 June we held round tables in Werribee at Odyssey house and Foundation House with the member for Werribee. These forums are helping guide the work of the VRU, which has been provided with $30 million-plus to consider and progress these important early intervention reforms.
