Mathew HILAKARI (Point Cook) (19:08): (1852) My adjournment is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and I invite the minister to attend the intersection of Point Cook Road and Central Avenue to enjoy the works that are going on there. The minister was recently there at that site, and we saw some of those works, but I can tell the community that the lights at Point Cook Road and Central Avenue are now on. That means that intersection is safer and faster to get through for our whole community. It is something that we have been calling for for a long time, and I am glad that we are able to deliver that. For the next section, we are fixing the exit alongside the McDonald’s. That will take a couple of months, and then we are going to resurface the whole road section, including the dip on the Point Cook Road bridge. Straight after that we will be onto Central Avenue, because we need to duplicate those last 800 metres – again, a job that needed to be done and will be done by this government. Should we be re-elected in November, we will also duplicate Point Cook Road from Central Avenue all the way through to Dunnings Road – another sticking point for our community. This is a job that we will achieve, because if we are willing to fix the intersection of Sneydes Road and Point Cook Road – a dangerous, horrible intersection, which is now safe because of traffic lights – and if we are willing to put traffic lights in to replace the Central Avenue and Point Cook Road 1½ roundabouts, which are dangerous and unsafe for pedestrians in particular and cyclists as well as drivers, then we are going to get this job done too.
