 James NEWBURY (Brighton) (10:29): Dendy Deli has been crowned winner of the outstanding restaurant category at the recent South East Melbourne Local Business Awards. Over 40 years ago, in 1984, Fred Seoud started the deli at 26 Church Street in Brighton. Fred arrived in Australia in 1956 when he was eight. He later met his wife Shamis when they were both 18, when he was visiting Lebanon. They married and both returned to Australia in 1966. Fred ran a number of businesses before the deli, including Fame nightclub, Pineapple Spot, Golden Tower, Chapelli’s and numerous businesses along Swanston Street. The deli is now led by Fred’s daughter Sally, with siblings Ron, Milad, Hilda, Shadi and Sam all part of the continuing family story. Congratulations to the whole deli team and the Seoud family.
