Luba GRIGOROVITCH (Kororoit – Minister for Youth, Minister for Carers and Volunteers) (10:16): Today I would like to recognise Elaine Hazim, the incredible principal at Victoria University Secondary College in Deer Park. Through my many visits to the school I have experienced the warmth and the passion of Elaine and her teaching of the next generation of leaders. Elaine has recently been recognised for her passion and dedication to teaching with the 2026 AVID International Educator of the Year award presented by the international program. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an incredible program. The awards honour teachers who champion career readiness and self-determination and will be presented in December in Atlanta, Georgia. Elaine gives her absolute heart and soul to everything that she does at this incredible school. Congratulations to Elaine for this well-deserved award. On this side of this house, we recognise all principals and all educators committed to helping Victorian students to get the best education possible. We particularly celebrate leaders like Elaine who advocate for students who may have become disengaged with school and help them get back on track. We believe that every student deserves a quality education, not just those in certain postcodes. Well done, Elaine, and good on you for winning the AVID International Educator of the Year award.
