Gabrielle DE VIETRI (Richmond) (14:36): (1834) My question is to the Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts. The latest move in this Labor government’s disastrous plan to wipe out housing has hit Richmond. Labor will demolish 220 public homes, the open space with a community garden and a new playground at the south end of the estate to give this public property to private developers to build 800 mostly expensive private apartments – luxury corporate rentals which get massive tax concessions but go for between 20 to 70 per cent above market rate and drive up the rent costs for everyone else. But it gets worse. There will be zero public housing rebuilt at this site and 70 fewer community homes than there were public. Gough Whitlam would be turning in his grave to watch this Labor Party and what they are doing to public housing. So my question is: Minister, why is your government completely abandoning public housing?
