University of the Third Age

Cindy McLEISH (Eildon) (10:23): There is a lot to celebrate in the U3A world. Sabi Buehler was recently named Nillumbik volunteer of the year for her decades of volunteering, including founding the Nillumbik U3A in Hurstbridge in 2008. This has been an enormous success, with over 1000 ‍current members and over 100 courses to choose from. The Healesville U3A have just clocked up 20 years, and they had a celebratory bash at the Memo last week along with the launch of their commemorative book A History in Photos. With learning, friendship, creativity and community at its core, it is a welcoming place for all. With 17 courses initially, their offering is now at 56: music, cards, Friday at 5 – whatever you want. Local talent Karen Roberts wrote a song for the occasion, 20 Years and Going Strong. Fifty-one people have done a stint on the committee over that time, and at each turn the organisation thrived. Congratulations to Ethne Pfeiffer and the committee for their great work.
