Danny O’BRIEN (Gippsland South) (14:30): (1828) My question is to the Minister for Environment, and I ask: when will the government undertake fuel reduction activities, either burning or mulching, around the township of Loch Sport? As the minister will be aware, we had an early-season fire at Seacombe, near Loch Sport, threatening Golden Beach, Paradise Beach, Seacombe and Loch Sport on Sunday. This is exactly the same time of year as the fire that threatened Loch Sport three years ago. The community there are very concerned that not enough is being done to protect them. This includes at the eastern end where the national park is, which is a real concern for that community. At the western end there has been mulching over recent years that I have pushed for and asked the government to do, but not enough has been done. The Loch Sport community, with just one road in and one road out, is very concerned that it remains a ticking time bomb and the government has not done enough to reduce the bushfire threat.
