 Mathew HILAKARI (Point Cook) (10:34): I cannot believe it. Four times over the last two weeks, when I have been on the way to town, Google Maps has sent me to the Point Cook Road–Central Avenue intersection. The reason I am shocked is because this has been a wildly congested and dangerous intersection in the community for so long. But Google Maps is now telling me to go this way, because the work has been done and the lights are on at this intersection. I want to thank the workforce who have been doing this job at speed, faster than expected, beating the expectations. I thank them for that. I thank the community, because they have been putting up with these works for a little while. Really 30 years ago we should have done these works, but we are getting the job done on Point Cook Road.

We have started with a dangerous intersection – Sneydes Road–Point Cook Road. That dangerous intersection has lights now too. Of course it should, because it was so dangerous and members of the community, including myself, avoided that intersection in the past.

What is next? Central Avenue will get duplicated, and that has been a really important job. When Werribee was a council, they bought up that land and demolished the houses, and now we are getting on and duplicating that road. Next Central Avenue all the way to Dunnings Road will be duplicated by a Labor government. I look forward to getting that done, just like the other works we have been doing on Point Cook Road.
