 Jess WILSON (Kew – Leader of the Opposition) (10:15): Road safety is a key concern that my constituents have raised with me time and time again. My commitment to the people of Kew is that a Liberal government will deliver pedestrian crossings on Barkers Road and at the Willsmere Road and Earl Street roundabout. We have had too many near misses and actual instances of local students and pedestrians being struck by cars. Petitions have received thousands of signatures at both of these level crossings. We have listened; Labor has ignored, but only a Liberal government can deliver these pedestrian crossings for Kew.

Only a Liberal government can fix the noise walls along the North East Link. The people of North Balwyn were promised these noise walls by Labor, who then scaled them right back. On a project that has been at the epicentre of Big Build corruption and blown out by more than $16 billion, local residents deserve what they were promised. My commitment to the people of North Balwyn is that a Liberal government will restore the noise walls to what they were actually promised.

I am delighted that Yarra Boulevard in Kew will be the site of a noise camera trial in coming months. Hooning has had a shocking impact on this local community. I have met with the local residents. I have advocated to the minister, and I thank the Minister for Environment and her predecessors in their role for their support in securing this outcome for local residents. I am optimistic that the trial will establish a mechanism in which we can reduce hooning along Yarra Boulevard.
