 Sarah CONNOLLY (Laverton) (19:03): (1830) My adjournment is for the Deputy Premier as Minister for Education, and the action I seek is that the minister update me on the stage 2 works at Bemin Secondary College. Only Labor backs families in Truganina. Only Labor is delivering world-class education facilities for each and every single child in Melbourne’s west. We built Truganina’s first high school, and now we are upgrading it. Bemin Secondary College is one of 121 schools that Labor has built here in Victoria. It is one of the 20 schools that we have built in Wyndham alone. Thanks to our government’s decision to invest in and build an education precinct in Truganina’s north, this school has not one but two campuses. That means more capacity for kids to receive that world-class education in modern facilities. Now we are getting on with delivering the next stage of works for this much-loved school in my electorate. Labor is investing a further $37 million to deliver stage 2 of this local school. This means more classrooms and more learning facilities for our kids. It means a new arts and technology building, hardcourts for sports and a sports field for the junior campus – finally. That is what this investment means for students at Truganina. These are not trivial investments. They are not nice-to-haves. For students at Bemin these are the important features a school needs so they can receive the best education possible.

Investments like this are only possible because of our Labor government. We value education, we back in our schools time and time again and we understand the value of investments exactly like this one. We build schools. We upgrade schools. We do not close them. We make sure our students have breakfast. We make sure they do not go without. We back in our teachers with well-paid jobs. We do not sack them as part of a $40 billion cut to the state budget. And we back in programs that help our kids thrive, which is why we have some of the best NAPLAN results in the country. It is because Victoria is the Education State. You do not get these outcomes through cuts to education, you get them through funding our schools, and that is exactly what our government has done and what we are doing with Bemin Secondary College.
