 Cindy McLEISH (Eildon) (14:28): (1808) I have a question for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. Can the minister provide details of the planned response to improve the conditions on Mount Buller Road following the recent and devastating fatality where a fallen tree took the life of Talae Rodden and seriously injured his mother Sally? Road users have long been concerned about fallen timber, build-up of debris in the roadside drains and gutters, potential drainage and erosion issues and trees located above the road corridor that pose a risk to motorists. Mount Buller Road users want to know what the government is going to do. They want a comprehensive assessment, including inspections of roadside vegetation, unstable trees, drainage systems, geotechnical risks and timber accumulation within road reserves. They want to know what works or funding are planned to address any identified risks and improve safety for road users. It is a busy road in snow season. It is subject to ice, high winds, heavy rainfall, poor visibility and of course snow. It traverses steep terrain, including known geotechnical and landslip-prone areas.
