Ellen SANDELL (Melbourne) (14:34): (1814) My question is to the Minister for Planning. Yarra Park is a state heritage-listed public park in my electorate. It is a peaceful recreational space for local residents, but it is also known as the Melbourne Cricket Club’s car park. This often means residents are unable to use the park for large chunks of the year, and they have to deal with the damage and the clean-up after games. This disruption was only ever meant to be temporary and on certain days, but now Melbourne Cricket Club’s proposed master plan risks turning the park into a permanent, commercialised festival and parking zone with permanent infrastructure installed that was never meant to be included. Community consultation on this proposal was also sorely lacking, with a broken online survey meaning residents could not register their deep dissatisfaction with this plan. The master plan and its overlay will also remove local residents from any consultation regarding the park’s future going forward. My question is: will the minister agree to pause and revise the master plan so that residents can have a proper say in the future of their beloved Yarra Park?
