Adjournment

Camelot Rise Primary School

John MULLAHY

Camelot Rise Primary School

John MULLAHY (Glen Waverley) (19:17): (1796) My adjournment matter is directed to the Minister for Education, and the action I seek is for the minister to visit Camelot Rise Primary School in my district of Glen Waverley. I know how much local families value education, because when we invest in better schools we invest in better futures for our children. Every student deserves a safe, modern and inspiring place to learn, grow and reach their full potential. For 50 years Camelot Rise Primary School has served our community with pride. Generations of local families have sent their children there, and it remains a much-loved part of our community. But its ageing facilities can no longer keep pace with the needs of the students and staff. While we have secured funding for important improvements over the years, it is now time to consider a longer term solution.

Over recent weeks I have been running a petition calling for an upgrade to Camelot Rise Primary School. I am proud that more than 700 people have added their names to this important community campaign. I want to thank principal Matthew Coney and assistant principal Ben Heys for their leadership and tireless advocacy. I also acknowledge the school council, school teachers, support staff, parents and the entire Camelot Rise community for standing together and making their voices heard. They want their children to learn in modern, fit-for-purpose facilities and they want a clear plan for the school’s long-term future. What they need now is for our Labor government to work alongside them to turn that vision into reality. That is why I invite the Minister for Education to visit Camelot Rise Primary School with me to see the facilities firsthand, hear directly from the school community and explore how our government can support this fantastic Glen Waverley school for generations to come.
