Lindiwe Londeka
Gary MAAS (Narre Warren South) (13:17): I was pleased to recently attend and speak at the book launch of Lindiwe Londeka, who is an incredible advocate for our African diaspora in the outer south-east, via AFMVICCARE. Lindi’s book is titled There is Hope for the Tree, and it tells the story of her own journey and her remarkable life of service and support to the community but guided by her Christian faith. It really is a beautiful book. I have been lucky to know Lindi throughout my time as the member for Narre Warren South and was honoured to be there to celebrate that accomplishment with her. She has worked hard as a coordinator at AFMVICCARE, a not-for-profit-based organisation that is highly valued for its role in supporting our South Sudanese migrants throughout my area and surrounds. The organisation has support programs that span from homework clubs through to sport clubs, with a focus on keeping kids and young people engaged in school. She has led women’s sewing classes; as I said, homework clubs; culturally appropriate mental awareness programs for mothers and children; and during the pandemic she played a crucial role supporting food support to the elderly at that time. It was fantastic to join her and all of her many supporters in the community. I am so grateful for the contribution she makes and the commitment of these clubs and individuals, as they change people’s lives every day.
