Suburban Rail Loop
Matthew GUY (Bulleen) (14:11): My question is to the Premier. The Premier’s declared political mentor – one of them – former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says the Suburban Rail Loop project is a dog of a project that has totally sabotaged the budget, absolutely destroyed the Victorian budget and crippled infrastructure investment across the state. If the Premier believes this project is value for money, will he now release the project’s contracts and current costings in full so Victorians can decide for themselves?
Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier) (14:12): We are building this project for less. We are also saving Victorians money, and an orbital line is needed for our state. We are building nation-leading infrastructure. I will leave it to those opposite to build their coalition with One Nation.
Matthew GUY (Bulleen) (14:13): If the Premier will not release the full contracts, will he now guarantee to Victorians that this project will not cost a dollar more than he claims it will?
Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier) (14:13): We have also announced today an independent technical review. A panel of experts will look at this project, and I will let them get onto their work. I will not take advice –
Matthew Guy: On a point of order, Speaker, with respect, on relevance, it was a very straightforward question on yes or no.
The SPEAKER: I cannot direct the Premier how to answer the question.
Ben CARROLL: We build nation-leading projects. They put ‘For sale’ signs on them.
