AVG Travels

Dylan WIGHT (Tarneit) (15:47): Recently I met with members of my local community in Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing who were affected by the collapse of AVG Travels. When AVG Travels was placed into liquidation, the affected families not only lost their hard-earned money but lost their time and the opportunity to create memories and experiences for themselves and their loved ones. When I met with affected community members to hear their concerns and stories, I was outraged. Families have been left overseas and refunds left unpaid for weeks. While this is a federal issue, I felt it necessary to meet with the Minister for Consumer Affairs to raise the matter in my capacity as their local state member.

Additionally, I want to show my support for the petition of affected community members and families which is going around at the moment. The petition is called the ‘Mandatory consumer protection reform for Australian travellers’ petition. It is to be presented in the federal Parliament in hope that we may achieve some remedy for those affected community members. Thank you to the local community for their coordination in raising this matter and for sharing their incredibly difficult experiences.
