Friends of Braeside Park

Meng Heang TAK (Clarinda) (15:20): Also, congratulations to the Friends of Braeside Park on their very successful community event to mark the 100th anniversary of Phar Lap’s birthday. Phar Lap is one of Australia’s most iconic sports legends and has a historical connection to Braeside, where he was trained in the 1930s prior to his departure to the United States. It was my pleasure to join with president Judith Sise, volunteers and friends to unveil the aluminium horse sculpture at the Phar Lap Track, accompanied by seven painted interpretive panels on the cultural, environmental and industrial history of the area. Friends of Braeside Park is a long-established community volunteers group founded in 1989 working closely with Parks Victoria to protect and enhance Braeside Park. The group does fantastic work, which includes environmental and cultural heritage projects and community education, working together with other local organisations, including men’s sheds, historical societies and local businesses. Congratulations and thank you. Well done to all.
