Questions without notice and ministers statements
Construction industry
Jess WILSON (Kew – Leader of the Opposition) (14:01): My question is to the Premier. Before a royal commission has even been established, the Premier told the Guardian that he does not believe government officials knew about alleged corruption on the Big Build as it unfolded. How many government officials did the Premier personally speak to before drawing that conclusion?
Ben CARROLL (Niddrie – Premier) (14:02): I made it very clear that what occurred on these construction sites was inappropriate. It is why I have called a royal commission.
Members interjecting.
The SPEAKER: The member for Lara is warned.
Jess WILSON (Kew – Leader of the Opposition) (14:02): Senior government official Kevin Devlin repeatedly warned the former Premier about serious misconduct on the Big Build and the impact it was having on project costs. Did the Premier speak to Mr Devlin about what he knew before publicly declaring that he did not believe government officials knew about corruption on the Big Build?
