Bemin Secondary College
Sarah CONNOLLY (Laverton) (19:09): (1152) My adjournment is for the Deputy Premier as the Minister for Education, and the action I seek is that the Deputy Premier join me in my electorate of Laverton to visit Bemin Secondary College out in the mighty Truganina. As the Deputy Premier knows, Bemin Secondary is Truganina’s first high school and was opened by our government just last year. As many here know, when we built this school we made the great decision to split the school into two mighty campuses – the senior campus on Morris Road and a second junior campus at the Trug North education precinct in the Elements estate, which is also home, mind you, to Warreen Primary School, a great local primary school.
This happens to be a major winner out of this year’s budget, and I am so happy to announce to the Truganina community that this school will be receiving $37 million to commence stage 2 works. This is something that I have been talking about with the local principal Jo for many, many months now. As the local member I had the tremendous privilege, along with our Premier Jacinta Allan, of calling Jo and letting her know we did it – the funding was finally on its way. That is why I would welcome the chance for the Deputy Premier to come back to Bemin Secondary College, meet with the principal and the local school community and find out firsthand just how much the school will benefit from this tremendous investment now and into the future.
