Constituency questions

Tarneit electorate

Tarneit electorate

Dylan WIGHT (Tarneit) (12:49): (1133) My question is to the Minister for Public and Active Transport. How will free public transport for children under the age of 18 support families in my electorate of Tarneit? I recently had the pleasure of speaking with students at Hoppers Crossing Secondary and The Grange P–12 College for the Youth Parliament program. These bright, thoughtful young people had bold ideas for the future, and when asked what law they would like to introduce into the Parliament, students at The Grange chose to reduce public transport fares. Many shared how hard it is for them to get to school when their families simply cannot afford the cost. No child should miss out on education because of their postcode or their parents’ income. That is why I am so excited about the announcement of free public transport for children. Families across Tarneit feel the cost of fares every single day, especially those with multiple children and limited transport options. This investment will save families an average of $755 per child per year.
