Tim RICHARDSON (Mordialloc) (14:18): It was great to join Edithvale fire brigade for their 100-year anniversary dinner and celebration recently – a volunteer brigade that has served our community for generations and a volunteer brigade that is surrounded by FRV legends who support them, because we all work as one in emergency services. And to hear the contribution they have made, the volunteers turn out to hundreds of callouts each and every year and support our community; they are so well supported. They have got 139 members now. I want to give a big shout-out to outgoing captain Sean McGuckin; the leadership of Graham Fountain, the immediate past CFA captain as well, affectionately known as Spout; and everyone that connected together on this. The Country Fire Authority celebrated its 80 years this year, but Edithvale CFA was going for 20 years before that, showing the significance of their contribution.
And it is on the back of last week celebrating Aspendale Primary School’s 100-year celebration – those times when the grass was mowed by animals on the actual field and there were only a few dozen students, all the way through to the 525 students and the thriving community that we have there now. Generations have loved and appreciated the first-class education that we have had at Aspendale Primary School. So to celebrate their 100 years with hundreds in our local community and to see the legends of Edithvale CFA just shows the history and the contribution from so many and a really exciting and thriving time in the Mordialloc constituency.
