Bairnsdale battery energy storage facility

Tim BULL (Gippsland East) presented a petition bearing 706 signatures:

The petition of the residents of Victoria in objection to Planning Application PA2503624 for Ballantine Solar Farm at 280 BENGWORDEN ROAD BAIRNSDALE VIC 3875.

We draw to the attention of the House a number of concerns regarding the inappropriate siting of a solar and BESS facility, including the high fire risk with an insufficient buffer zone to the Bairnsdale Airport, DEECA air base and the Moormurng Forest, as well as the potential water and soil contamination, which would threaten the Gippsland Lakes.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly of Victoria;

*Provide an opportunity for community to raise its concerns in relation to this project and have them addressed prior to project approval and,

*That the minister provide an avenue for community to have these matters addressed beforeministerialdepartmental approval of the project.

Ordered that petition be considered tomorrow.
