Rachel WESTAWAY (Prahran) (14:35): (1750) My constituency question is for the Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts. Residents at 150 Inkerman Street, St Kilda, and 25 and 27 King Street, Prahran, are being asked to relocate as part of the government’s high-rise redevelopment program. Many of these residents are elderly and have lived in the community for many years and have built their lives around local services and support networks. Understandably, they do not want to move. They deserve certainty, they deserve clarity and they absolutely deserve respect. The government says residents may return to their neighbourhoods subject to ongoing eligibility, needs and the sustainability of new homes. Significant questions remain about whether demolition was necessary. On what basis was the decision made to demolish the properties rather than retain them, and what consideration was given to renovation and refurbishment as an alternative?
