Jackson TAYLOR (Bayswater) (10:16): I rise to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Gietman, who, sadly, passed away on 31 May this year. Andrew was a loving and devoted father to Melina and Connor. Despite his own health challenges, his children were at the centre of his life, and he was incredibly proud of them. Andrew was highly respected nationally and internationally for his expertise in alternative energy, particularly in biomass- and refuse-derived fuel. But for those of us who knew Andrew, it was his character and the way that he treated people that stood out most. Andrew had been a member of the Labor Party since around 2020 and had been a friend and supporter of mine since 2019. He was the kind of person who was always keen to help in any way he could. He never judged others, was always respectful and genuinely cared about people. What I will particularly remember is that despite his own challenges, Andrew would always dig deep to help me and those around him. He gave his time, his support and his friendship freely. That tells you a lot about the kind of bloke that he was. Andrew wore his heart on his sleeve. He believed strongly in social justice and had a genuine empathy for people who were doing it tough. He was also a proud and passionate Hawthorn supporter for 42 years. I extend my deepest condolences to Melina, Connor, his parents Julie and John, Andrew’s two brothers and all of his family and friends. Andrew was a good man, a loving father and a loyal friend.
