 Cindy McLEISH (Eildon) (10:17): I was most disturbed by the behaviour of some Preston Lions Football Club supporters in a match against South Melbourne Football Club in mid-July. Their behaviour was greatly offensive at best. It was misogynistic, crude and racist. The messaging targeted at Greek Australian women was appalling and needs to be called out widely. There is no place in sport for behaviour like this or elsewhere in our communities. This level of sexism and disrespect for women must stop. I urge the members of Parliament who sponsor the club to carefully consider their future sponsorship, in particular the federal member for Cooper, who is the Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence. I note the club, clearly in damage control, put out a statement apologising and condemning this behaviour, with those involved to be disciplined.
