Tim BULL (Gippsland East) (10:27): On Monday morning I drove to Melbourne, and I had the Waze app on the little car screen. Never before have I seen so many of those little yellow logos pop up to tell me there were potholes approaching. It was not the rain – the weather has been blamed, but we had had 15 mil of rain – it is lack of investment. Never before have I seen the potholes so wide and deep. It was really dangerous. We saw all the cars lined up on the side of the road. We had other instances right across Gippsland where we had rim damage. I had one constituent, Michelle, who contacted me on Monday. She hit a pothole a month ago – $2330 in damage. She put in her claim, and the government basically said, ‘Not my problem.’ It is going to take more than a billion dollars to fix. That is why we have committed to five times that amount to make sure that the roads are fixed and fixed properly so we do not have these situations recurring every time we have a little sprinkle of rain.
