 Paul EDBROOKE (Frankston – Minister for Police, Minister for Crime Prevention, Minister for Emergency Services, Minister for Multicultural Affairs) (10:25): On the weekend I had an absolutely amazing night. I spent time at the Rovers in Frankston for the Ride for Rovers junior football club. The president of the Rovers Aaron Gale decided, to raise awareness and money for the club’s upcoming redevelopment, that he would take on a gruelling 24-hour bike challenge. I do not know whether anyone saw the Tour de France lately, but it is certainly not something that I would take on. But Aaron decided that he would do laps up to Mordialloc and back to Frankston. He rode the equivalent of, I think, the distance to Mount Gambier – an amazing effort – with no sleep for 36 hours straight.

As we look forward to the future of this amazing club with the redevelopment, we are beginning the process of seeing the club raise funds for the things it will need to put inside the new clubroom, equipment and resources that will help not only the current players but the players of the future and the future champions of our sports in Australia, if not internationally. Can I just say how absolutely proud I am of that community. To see Aaron come across the finish line with the local CFA and with the kids – what a role model for that community. It was just amazing to see everyone together. So many people were there: local government representatives, federal government representatives, everyone all together for one purpose.
