 Katie HALL (Footscray) (10:37): Community sport is the heart of our community, and I am delighted to acknowledge the footy teams who are wrapping up their seasons. Congratulations to all of the teams that will be participating in the finals next week. I would like to thank Darren Burnham from the West Footscray Roosters for his ongoing leadership at that great club. The Roosters are such a fantastic team. I was delighted at the last election to secure $10 million so that Shorten Reserve could be flattened out and the kids would no longer be running up hills while playing football. That work is underway. We have also fought hard to make sure that the seniors can stay at their home of Shorten Reserve.

I would like to acknowledge Jason Agrotis from the North Footscray Devils, from the Yarraville Seddon Eagles Dmitri Colebatch and from Parkside Football Club Ben Crook. One of the things I love about participating in community sport myself as a mum – my little guy is playing for the under-8s at the Eagles – is just seeing how many volunteers make it happen, from the people that cut up the oranges to the coaches. It is a fantastic thing, and congratulations to all the teams.
