Morwell Bowling Club

Martin CAMERON (Morwell) (13:02): The Morwell Bowling Club has been a much-loved community asset for over a century, and in many ways it has been a heartbeat of the town of Morwell. On 27 August we woke to the devastating news that the club had been destroyed by fire overnight. While the new bowling greens and function centre were undamaged in the blaze, the rest of the building was lost despite the best efforts of local CFA and FRV crews. More than 100 years worth of invaluable memorabilia has been lost, and it can never be replaced.

The club has been the hub of the community spirit, continually and generously sponsoring local sporting clubs and fire brigades and donating support to events across the Latrobe Valley. As we do in the valley, we are banding together to support the staff and the members of the Morwell Bowling Club, and one thing is for sure: they will rebuild. The club is hopeful it will be open for bowling, even though it will be a limited program, very, very soon.
