 Joe McCRACKEN (Western Victoria) (15:55): I rise to put my condolences on the record for Peter Mason, who passed away over the weekend. Peter, known to many as Tiki, was a 71-year-old Ballarat man, a retired spray painter and the respected president of the Eureka Social Riders. Sadly, Peter died on Sunday after his motorcycle struck a pothole and he lost control on the Western Highway near Trawalla Road, just west of Ballarat. Emergency services were called at approximately 12:50, but he tragically passed away at the scene. The family of Peter have said very publicly that they do not want him to be remembered as a headline, they want him to be remembered as a person, and I want to put my condolences to the family and friends of Peter who have really suffered at this quite sudden and shocking passing of Peter. Peter’s death should not be in vain, and if there is any message that comes from this tragic situation it is that road safety is really important. I bet Peter would want that message to be put out to everyone: to be safe on the roads, to drive to the conditions and to make sure that the roads are in the best possible condition they can be for everyone who is using them.
