 Sarah MANSFIELD (Western Victoria) presented a petition bearing 2295 signatures:

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council to the need for a new public hospital in Tarneit by 2030. Wyndham is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities, yet healthcare infrastructure remains under significant pressure. Wyndam’s population is projected to reach approximately 340,688 by 2031. Wyndham City Council estimates the municipality currently needs around 797 public hospital beds, increasing to more than 1,200 by 2046, and has identified inadequate hospital infrastructure and capacity as a significant challenge for the community.

While the expansion of Werribee Mercy Hospital, which currently serves more than 300,000 residents, is welcome and necessary, it should complement – not replace – long-term planning for additional hospital capacity.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council commit to a new public hospital in Tarneit by 2030 and carrying out the following:

1. Identify and secure a suitable site; 2. Develop a detailed business case and delivery plan; 3. Provide a clear funding commitment and construction timeline; 4. Plan workforce requirements, including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals; 5. Ensure the hospital opens with the facilities, equipment and staffing required to provide quality care.
