 Evan MULHOLLAND (Northern Metropolitan) (15:01): (2627) My constituency question is for the Minister for Education. Victoria has just four fully selective government secondary schools, while New South Wales has 21 fully selective and 26 partially selective high schools. In Melbourne’s growing north I hear from parents who are travelling great distances to give their children access to the educational opportunities they want and deserve. The Liberals and Nationals have committed to building a new select-entry high school serving Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park and surrounding suburbs as part of a plan to significantly expand opportunities for high-achieving students across Victoria. Entry would be based on academic performance, aptitude and socio-economic circumstance, ensuring access is not determined by wealth or postcode. Every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, including those living in our rapidly growing northern suburbs. Will the minister match the Liberals and Nationals’ commitment to deliver a new select-entry high school for Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park and surrounding suburbs?
