 Wendy LOVELL (Northern Victoria) (14:59): (2625) My question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. Will you fund a safety upgrade of the intersection of Maple Street and High Street in Golden Square? High Street is Bendigo’s busiest road, with 40,000 vehicles per day travelling along it, and there is a 1.4-kilometre section that runs through Golden Square without a safe crossing point. The Golden Square Action Group are calling for an upgrade of the intersection of High Street and Maple Street to provide a safe pedestrian and cyclist crossing with user-operated traffic lights. Numerous schools, clubs and businesses have written letters of support for the project, and the Golden Square Action Group has collected 500 signatures on an online petition. The crossing could link with the existing regional city trail and promote more bicycle use in a city that is often car dependent. I urge the Victorian government to get behind this project to make it a reality.
