Anthony CARBINES (Ivanhoe – Minister for Police, Minister for Crime Prevention, Minister for Racing) (19:23): I am pleased to respond to several matters on the adjournment from members. The member South-West Coast raised a matter for the Minister for Environment, requesting that she visit her electorate to spend time with the community at Tower Hill, particularly around weed management. Serrated tussock might be one of those weeds that needs a bit of attention up there with the Friends of Tower Hill.

The member for Hastings raised a matter for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events. He particularly noted the recent visit from the minister at the McClelland Gallery and is pretty keen to get the minister back as an action item to visit the great township of Somers.

I can also say that the Honourable member for Gippsland East raised a matter for the Minister for Emergency Services, requesting that the Victorian fire rating system be made available to the community year round, and he went into detail regarding those matters. Of course the house wishes his community well in what are some trying circumstances in regard to fire and flood at this time.

The member for Broadmeadows raised a matter for the Minister for Housing and sought the action that she join her at the Banksia Gardens housing estate in her electorate. It is certainly a place that has been a focus for the now Minister for Development Victoria and Minister for Precincts, and we are keen to continue that work with the new Minister for Housing.

The member for Narracan raised a matter for the Minister for Emergency Services, in particular to seek that the minister direct the department to review all CFA assets to ensure their readiness for the upcoming fire season, which as he noted in the town of Rawson has come a little early, unfortunately, in relation to parts of his electorate.

I also had a matter from the member for Monbulk, who sought from the Minister for Children an action to visit the Trek Learning Centre in her electorate, a not-for-profit organisation ensuring access for vulnerable young people to training and other supports. The member for Prahran raised a matter for the Minister for Housing seeking that the government build more public housing. The member for Mordialloc raised a matter for the Minister for Education, the Deputy Premier, seeking action on an update on the progress of the Parkdale Secondary College and the junior learning centre and for him to go out there and see the great progress that is being made at Parkdale Secondary College.

The member for Euroa raised a matter also for the Minister for Education, the Deputy Premier, seeking action to build a public secondary school in Kilmore, which she outlined. The member for Yan Yean also raised a matter for the Deputy Premier, the Minister for Education – he is going to be busy. It was also based on an action item seeking his attention and a visit to the mighty electorate of Yan Yean to understand those priorities of education in the member’s ever-growing community, particularly some of the progress at Wandong Primary School and some other schools in her electorate that are doing great work, and her advocacy there. I commend all those matters to the respective ministers.

The DEPUTY SPEAKER: The house now stands adjourned until tomorrow morning.

House adjourned 7:26 pm.
