Introduction and first reading
That I introduce a bill for an act to repeal the Special Investigator Act 2021 and to abolish the Office of the Special Investigator, to make necessary transitional arrangements, to continue in operation certain offences, to make consequential and related amendments to other acts and for other purposes.
Motion agreed to.
Michael O’BRIEN (Malvern) (12:08): I would ask the minister to provide a brief explanation of this bill.
Anthony CARBINES (Ivanhoe – Minister for Police, Minister for Crime Prevention, Minister for Racing) (12:08): I thank the honourable member for Malvern. The bill will repeal the Office of the Special Investigator following the conclusion of its work, including winding down the statutory authority and removing the statutory role of special investigator.
