Parliament Prize
Nathan LAMBERT (Preston) (13:19): I rise to congratulate Rose, one of the students at Reservoir Views Primary School, for her highly commended entry into the 2023 Parliament Prize. As many of us know, the Parliament Prize gives schoolchildren the opportunity to put forward what they would say to this Parliament, and Rose’s entry in particular spoke about some road safety issues in the Keon Park area. I think Rose is absolutely right to identify that we do have a problem there with people shortcutting through those quite narrow suburban streets to avoid Cheddar Road and other main roads. Indeed we will speak to the minister and we will speak to the local council about what we can do about that issue. She points out the lack of stop signs and the speed limits. I think we have to think about whether 40 kilometres per hour is more appropriate for some of those narrow suburban roads. I see the Minister for Roads and Road Safety is here, so I am sure she will be happy to take that up on Rose’s and our behalf.
