State election

Gaelle BROAD (Northern Victoria) (10:19): In politics it is important to highlight what you stand for, not just what you stand against. The state election is just around the corner, and the Liberals and Nationals have a plan to fix Victoria. We have a plan to give Victoria a fresh start. Our plan will reduce crime, lower costs and deliver a government that works. Our plan for regional Victoria is already published on the Nationals for Victoria website, and today I thought I would highlight seven of my favourite policies: (1) the fair share guarantee that a minimum of 25 per cent of all new government infrastructure investment will be spent in regional Victoria to invest in better public transport, in hospitals and in our schools; (2) our plan to build better, safer roads, investing $5 billion to repair and rebuild Victoria’s roads and establish Better Roads Victoria to rebuild technical expertise in our road building and maintenance; (3) our plan to put 3000 more police on the streets and introduce stronger laws that deliver real consequences for criminals, to keep our community safe; (4) lowering taxes by scrapping Labor’s emergency services tax, the schools tax, the holiday tax and the GP tax and reducing the burden of land tax; (5) in housing, our plan to abolish stamp duty for first home buyers for all properties up to $1 million, making it more affordable to own your own home; (6) in health, our plan to invest in the regional workforce and upgrade regional hospitals; and (7), most importantly, to stop the waste, end the corruption, restore honesty and accountability in government and be transparent in managing taxpayer funds.
