Rikkie-Lee TYRRELL (Northern Victoria) (19:29): (2740) My adjournment this evening is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and the action I seek is for the badly damaged section of Murray Valley Highway between Swan Hill and Kerang to be completely repaired. Here we go again: another week, another badly damaged section of road in northern Victoria. A few weeks ago we heard Ms Terpstra say people actually like potholes. Well, not in northern Victoria they do not. In fact they are sick of them. They are sick of dodging them, sick of having to repair their vehicles and sick of risking their lives just to get from A to B. This section of the Murray Valley Highway, 45 kilometres south of Swan Hill and 12 kilometres north of Kerang, has been shoddily repaired time and time again. The repairs last just a few short weeks – sometimes days – before the dangerous craters open up again. This is a busy highway, the main road along the border. This highway has been raised so many times in this place, and it is still in a state of disrepair. The minister’s answers always include a statement for constituents to report the road damage to Snap Send Solve. Well, they have, numerous times, and still the road is not fixed. The repairs are abysmal and a bandaid solution at best, and we all know bandaids do not work on bitumen. This section of road needs a permanent fix. It needs to be taken back to the base and properly constructed. Surely that would be a far better use of taxpayers money than repairing the same section of road over and over again. Minister, the action I seek is for the badly damaged section of the Murray Valley Highway between Swan Hill and Kerang to be completely repaired.
