Sheena WATT (Northern Metropolitan) (09:47): I rise today to wish EMILY’s List Australia a very happy 30th birthday. Last sitting week it was fantastic to welcome so many passionate advocates and members to Parliament to celebrate three decades of groundbreaking work. Since 1996 EMILY’s List has been an unstoppable force in transforming politics across our country, providing the financial backing, mentoring and strategic support needed to get progressive women elected to public office. I wish to extend my thanks to the CEO of EMILY’s List Pamela Anderson for her leadership, along with the staff, committee members and every single sister across the movement who donates, volunteers and champions our fierce candidates every single day. Because of that collective effort, the Victorian parliamentary Labor Party is proud to have a strong majority of women across our caucus. When women are fairly represented across the decision-making table, they deliver better policy and stronger outcomes for all Victorians. EMILY’s List has fundamentally reshaped the face of our Parliament over the past 30 years, and I have no doubt that we will continue to see this important work for many, many decades to come.
