Adjournment

Wyndham–MacIntosh streets, Shepparton

Rikkie-Lee TYRRELL

Wyndham–MacIntosh streets, Shepparton

Rikkie-Lee TYRRELL (Northern Victoria) (19:43): (2690) My adjournment is – you guessed it – for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. The action I seek is for the minister to switch the lights on at Wyndham and MacIntosh streets in Shepparton. It has been six years since the traffic lights at the intersection of Wyndham and MacIntosh streets in Shepparton were installed. On 14 May 2025 I asked the then minister almost the exact same question. Fourteen months later they are still not switched on, in spite of all the rail and signalling upgrades being completed. How many more accidents need to occur before the lights are turned on? Surely it is not that complicated. On 5 August 2026 there was a serious crash at this intersection. This is the fifth collision at this intersection since the lights were installed. Council and members of the community have consistently raised this intersection as one of high risk. They are dumbfounded that after six years the lights are still not active. The work is done. From next week Shepparton will have the expanded train services they were promised last parliamentary term. Now all that is left is for the potentially life-saving traffic lights at the intersection of Wyndham and MacIntosh streets to be turned on.
